africaThis poem was inspired by an Italian movie i saw recently called Terrafirma.

In the water
Off the coast of Africa
They float
Dropped off of
Overloaded boats
To swim to shore
Waiting for
The mercy of
Passing boats
And hearts that care enough
To risk losing
House and home
If they dare
To rescue souls

No choices left but
To flee the burning building
Of a country gone insane
No choice but to risk
A watery grave
No choice but to escape
Fire And machettes
And hatred incarnate

With brain damage
Not a desireable choice for countries
Already overburdened
With too many
Fleeing from unbearable realities.

Excuse me
While i change the channel
Of my consciousness
To something
A little less
